  • Clarinet F#: What is that noise?

I hear a very strange noise when playing the F#4 on the mp legato clarinet.

Does anyone hear the same? It looks like white noise mixed to the sound, and it appears after the 1sec or so...

For example, load KLB_perf-leg_mp, and play B4 followed by F#4 in legato mode...

Is it my setup, or do you guys have the same noise?

    Thanks,
    Martin

P.S. Most of the other notes seem ok... The noise also appears on some other notes, but it is less noticeable...

  • So nobody uses this instrument?

  • I can't hear a problem, Martin. Tried out all 24 intervallsteps (= all available samples ) to F#4.
Maybe you mean the breathing, but the there is no big difference to the other keys. Any other opinions.

  • That is why I was wondering... In fact, I wonder if it is my specific setup that produces this noise... The noise on the F# is so big you can't miss it... Anyone else?

BTW, the noise appears after holding the F# for 1-2 seconds...

    Thanks,
    Martin

  • Are you sure you mean the mp-version? As far as I can remember I dealt with attenuating a very breathy f# within the forte-Klarinet recently (both perf. legato, of course) ...

  • Roman,

I just tried the forte clarinet, and it looks like the noise is even more proeminent.

I guess this noise is just excessive breathing, but on the F# it looks more like white noise than breathing. Also, the breathing doesn't seem to be equal from one note to another... Maybe this is normal...? I have to admit I know nothing about clarinet playing techniques...

    Martin

P.S. Roman, how did you attenuate this breathing sound?

  • I used Logic' automation to lower the trebles within the "FAT EQ" for that very note. Not elegant, but it worked out well.

    Greetings

  • Sorry guys... I was using a transposing instrument. The real noisy note is the Eb4, not the F#4...
