Hallo Paul
Hetoreyn is (was?) a happy Cubase4 (on MAC) user. [6]
Hi
Hetoreyn, did you checked all the matters around Audio and and VST?
-Have you ever tried you to exchange the VI by another VST-Instrument?
(Cubase Synthesizer > Same effect?)
-Do you have the same phenomenon after a system restart?
-Did you checked out the routings under VST-Connections (Controll room section etc.)
-Did you checked out whether you have still the asio-outputdriver or not.
-Did you checked out whether you have the phenomenon in a complete new project?

Well, in Cubase SX3, everything loaded up fine (VI VSTs, reverb set-up, inserts, mixers).
However, I did follow the instructions in a little text file somewhere that said to copy the Demo #1 presets to the VI 'Custom Data' folder before opening the Cubase project file. Could the (possible mis-) placement of those presets be the problem you're having?
Anyway, I have to say that having a working Cubase project for a reasonable orchestral set-up is tremendously useful, and ought to go some way towards assuaging those who pine for example configurations.
In particular, it's useful to see which instruments get special treatment such as equalization or compression; I suspect I'll be selectively bypassing those and listening to the differences, as well as comparing them with some of the tweaks I've been doing (such as adding tape warmth to timpani).
I am surprised by how wide some of the stereo pans are, though; the sound seems very much a 'standing on the conductor's podium' version at first listening.
Nevertheless, I think I owe the people at VSL who took the time to create this demo a beer, and I look forward to many more. [:)]
