  • VI Special Edition Vids

I am really digging this tutorials. Christian was kind enough to give me a Logic file a while agothat was pretty much the same setup but I never really got how it worked. Now I get it with the Pre Fade sound for Reverb. The tutorial is really cool and really helps clear up some things I've had a lot of qualms with over mixing. I reckon with a combination of this new template .. and the new VI Ensemble I might finally get that pro sound that I've been begging for. So thanks Christian and Paul for the vids, they are awesome. • Thanks, our pleasure [:)]

  • Aren't they brilliant???!!![H][H][H]

Like everyone else I can't wait for the new Vienna Ensemble [8-|]... any chance of a video demo/tutorial of it in action - just to be going on with ?[;)] please??

  • Hmm .. Actually there is one problem I'm having with the Cubase Version. Logic worked fine .. but the cubase version I get no sound. The Midi is playing fine .. and I see they are routed to the VI's .. but there is no signal going out of VI. Any suggestions on what needs to change here. Seems the VI is not being triggered. Heto

  • Ah .. It seems that there are no instruments loaded in the actual VI players. Not sure if this is just me .. but I thought I'd let you know. Heto

  • Hi Heto,

which version of the 6 Cubase versions are you referring to?

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hallo Paul

Hetoreyn is (was?) a happy Cubase4 (on MAC) user. [6]

    Hi

Hetoreyn, did you checked all the matters around Audio and and VST?

-Have you ever tried you to exchange the VI by another VST-Instrument?

     (Cubase Synthesizer > Same effect?)

-Do you have the same phenomenon after a system restart?

-Did you checked out the routings under VST-Connections (Controll room section etc.)

-Did you checked out whether you have still the asio-outputdriver or not.

-Did you checked out whether you have the phenomenon in a complete new project?

  • The Version is for Cubase 4 .. full version. I haven't done a restart yet. But I loaded one of the VI's with the appropriate instrument and it worked .. but by default all the instances were empty. Still a happy Cubase user .. As the template still helps me to mix better. But it would have been nice if I could here the song. Heto

  • Well, in Cubase SX3, everything loaded up fine (VI VSTs, reverb set-up, inserts, mixers).

However, I did follow the instructions in a little text file somewhere that said to copy the Demo #1 presets to the VI 'Custom Data' folder before opening the Cubase project file.  Could the (possible mis-) placement of those presets be  the problem you're having?

Anyway, I have to say that having a working Cubase project for a reasonable orchestral set-up is tremendously useful, and ought to go some way towards assuaging those who pine for example configurations.

In particular, it's useful to see which instruments get special treatment such as equalization or compression; I suspect I'll be selectively bypassing those and listening to the differences, as well as comparing them with some of the tweaks I've been doing (such as adding tape warmth to timpani).

I am surprised by how wide some of the stereo pans are, though; the sound seems very much a 'standing on the conductor's podium' version at first listening.

Nevertheless, I think I owe the people at VSL who took the time to create this demo a beer, and I look forward to many more. [:)]

  • Hmmm. I tried placing the Custom data in my folder as well and loading up the song again, but it just ain't loading any instruments. Bit of a bugger I say! Well the setup and everything is still there so I can use this.

  • Oddly enough the Cubase 3 version worked fine :D .. SO I can say that for me the Cubase 4 file have a problem. Heto

  • Hi Heto,

I just loaded both the normal and optimized Cubase 4 version into Cubase 4 on OSX, no problems here at all....

Anybody else experiencing troubles with these versions?

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • hi, maybe there is a difference in the file format for Cubase 4 on Mac Intel and Cubase 4 on G5? The file in the download section was made with a MacPro 2,66 which is intel. I think Heto is on PPC. Aren´t you? best chris K

  • Awww. Yeah I'm on PPC. I got the Logic session to work fine, and the Cubase 3 .. but for 4 it just doesn't want to load the presets that were used. It's no big deal as the session setup is all there. Damn nice tune by the way .. reminds me of a theme for an episode of Columbo. I always loved the music scores for those things .. and this has a real detective thriller feel about it. Very romantic sound.
