  • Fixed Velocity control

    Hello community
In Logic X sometime I faced the problem that I couldn’t control Velocity of notes in a Piano Roll Editor. How much I do Up/Down they always sounds loud.

In Logic's MIDI Transform there are Fixed Velocity and Random Velocity. I tried the pattern in both of them but no difference, always loud. I couldn’t control Orchestra Violin and Or.Cellos but Or.Violas and Or.Basses are fine.   I asked a question to Logic community and get an answer that it could be that Software Instrument have a fixed velocity.

Could someone help me. Thanks in advance.

  • I'm not sure I completely understand your issue and I don't use Logic but I assume that you're using the Vienna sample player either VI Pro 2 or the free version as a plug-in?

From what you're describing it sounds like a fader wasn't correctly assigned in the Vienna player.

Is the Velocity crossfade fader activated?  If so, is the fader all the way to the top?

If you have Expression assigned, I think it deffaults to the maximum 128 MIDI which would be the loudest setting. Did you assign a controler for Expression, like the mod wheel, and move it?

  • Hi Jasensmith,

Before to say thanks for your reply I made a test with different instruments and saw that something goes on unpredictable. In Logic X, connected to VE Pro 5 I'v made a test project with 8 tracks/instruments with the same setup. In Logic X I went to Piano Roll Editor for each track and started to change selected notes's Velocity. In some trackes I could make nice subito piano or forte and so on but in some tracks - not. They sounds loud only.  What I want is just to select in some frases different volume for each notes, which can be done with Note Velocity in a Piano Roll Editor.

    Any idea, please
