Managing legato transition volume

Hi all,

  Big fan of VSL, I usually don't have this problem but while trying to do woodwind solo parts like Oboe and Flute2 (I use DL FrOboe/STD, and DL Flute2/STD) I keep fighting with the legato transition volumes, they're way too loud...  Is there a way through VIPro to manage this?  Tried Start offset, Advanced>Start Offset Mode and nothing seems to make a difference.

OK, well the legato transition volume is not a separate volume. It is part of the destination note, so you will need to pull the xFade controller down for the portion of the transition if you want it quieter. The Offset Mode is really only works for me to make the transition shorter, and I've never found it very helpful in reducing volume for the start of the sample.

Perhaps if you could post an example of what "way too loud" sounds like, so that you can get some more useful suggestions.

Thanks for the help DG, I'll try to link a passage today.   

What I mean is that as each legato note starts, you can hear the start volume being too loud.  Especially on the FrOboe, I can lower it by raising attack a little bit but of course then it's not really legato sounding.

CC22 controls the transition volume. The higher cc22, the lower the transition volume. Have a look at the manual, it should be specified somewhere.

Attack rate won't do it, it just cuts the transition.

You can play around with the Attack feature in the Edit section, but I've never found that particularly useful in changing the perceived volume of the transition material (not the Master Attack). However, as I don't know what you're hearing that you don't like, it might be worth a try.

Here's a youtube video to explain what's going on:

You can hear that when B3 hits C4, the transition is way too loud. Additionally, you can hear phasing when you hit C4 again... I don't think that should be happening.

That's with stock patch, I had VelXfade locked at 56 for this video. Nothing else was modified other than velxfade and dynscaler set to 127 for greater low end control.

At velxfade greater than ~70 you don't hear it as much but the Oboe is playing forte/ff and that's not usually used for solo...
