  • Throbbing viola

No I'm not talking about a medical problem.

The solo viola from the SE/SE+ sustain patch is the only solo string sound from that collection that swells.  It's a most unnatural sound too.  I wondered if anyone else notices this or if there's something I'm doing or not doing to cause this.  The viola itself sounds fine, but it takes longer for it to get to it's core sound.

  • Hello Steve!

This behaviour is normal. For phrases I recommend using the legato patch instead of the sustain patch. This should work better.

  • Thanks Andi.  I guess I'll have to examine how/when Finale's HP chooses the sample and adjust accordingly.

  • Simply use a slur. Then the legato patch gets triggered.

  •  You could try putting a compressor effect on the viola in the mixer, this would stop it swelling in level and allow you to increase the overall level, making the beginning of the sample more prominent.
