  • VE Pro on a slave computer that's running PT

Hi all.  I was hoping someone might have clever solution to a setup I'd like to utilize.  I'm running VE Pro with Logic and slaving to another computer (all Mac Pro's.)  I'd like to add another computer as a slave but its main purpose is as a Pro Tools machine which is what I monitor my Logic machine through.  Its a printing machine receiving 32 tracks of adat from my Logic machine at all times.

I was hoping to host some of my samples on this PT machine using VE Pro with the audio getting directly into PT.  But I still need to trigger these samples from Logic on my sequencer computer.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.  Thanks!

  • Hello Eva,

Right now, you will have to use VE PRO as standalone software on your PT machine, receiving audio through either MIDIoverLAN or physical MIDI. We hope that a more flexible audio routing will make it to one of the next upgrades of VE PRO, allowing you to utilize VE PRO as a plug-in and sending MIDI via LAN AND then route the audio signal from VE PRO to any available output on your slave machine.

    Best,

    Paul

  • Thanks for the reply Paul.  I didn't quite understand your description.  Receiving audio through MIDI?

Can I use VE Pro as a plug in but still have it respond to MIDI coming in through a regular MIDI interface?  That way I could trigger the samples over regular MIDI but have the audio routed directly into PT through the plug in.  Possible?

  • Just thought I'd let you know that I kinda have this up and working!  I'm using VE Pro Server and the plug in in PT while having VE Pro Server receive MIDI from a regular MIDI interface.  I'm sending MIDI from a seperate Logic machine through a MIDI interface to the interface connected to the PT machine which VE Pro sees, albeit rather oddly.

First, its recognition of the midi ports is off by one (ie, signal coming into port 1 on the midi interface is recognized by VE Pro Server as port 2.  This stays consistently off all the way up the ports structure.

The other oddity is that VE Pro Server occasionaly stops seeing the incoming midi.  If I make a midi channel on PT I can see that the midi is still coming in fine, its just that VE Pro Server stops seeing it.  A reboot of VE Pro Server kicks it back in.  I don't think I was getting this occasional communication failure when I was only running VE Pro Server without its 64bit brother along side, so I'm gonna try going back to just the 32bit Server and see if this fixes it.
