    Hi folks, I'm a very happy VSL user over here and have been using the Vienna Ensemble software for a few weeks - wanting to upgrade to the Pro version in order to Preserve my instances and load 3rd party VSTis in a separate 32bit instance.

    The trial is going well, however I am experiencing some fairly high CPU/Asio meter load, and am currently running at 256 buffer at 48K. My audio card is a Lynx 2.

    Having upgraded to an i7 Quad Core and recently going up to 24Gb RAM, and using a RAID (performance) setup for my samples - I thought that the performance would be a little better than it is.

    Could anyone who has a similar system possibly help me out with getting the best performance out of my system. I'd really appreciate it.

    Here is my system specs:

    Asus P6X58
    i7 930
    24Gb RAM Triple Channel mode.
    7200 rpm HDDs in RAID mode for samples drive
    Cubase 5.52 64bit
    Windows 7 64 bit
    Kontakt 4.2 (several instances not in VE Pro but as multitimbral plugins in Cubase)
    VE Pro (currently on trial)
    Assortment of reverbs, compressors and EQs in Cubase.

    What kind of RAID mode do you use ? Do you have a dedicated RAID PCI card ?

    RAID is commonly used to secure datas (redundancy). It can improve performance for Network Server purposes (and only with some particular modes) but I doubt it improves performances for sample streaming.

    If you're using 2 HDD for RAID, it would be better to use 2 separate HDDs (non RAID) and split your sample datas between them ... or use SSD.

    thanks for the tip. I'm using the software RAID in Windows 7 64. The performance is about 1 3/4 faster than with a single drive.

    I've discovered the source of the high CPU/Asio meter. During the trial of VE Pro, I have loaded all my 64bit instruments into instances of VE Pro, and created a project in the 32bit version of Cubase 5.

    It's between 10 and 15% lower in CPU/Asio in the 32bit version. Much more stable. I imagine this has a fair bit to do with the resources needed to run 64bit programs, or Cubase is just more stable in 32bit. Whichever the reason is, it's a clear difference.

    Once I buy VE Pro, I am going to run it in the 32bit version of Cubase, and connect to 64bit instances of VE Pro. Best of both worlds - and I can run my 32bit plugins without the VST/jbridge issues.
