    Re VI Pro, I'm having trouble understanding the precise function of the "start offset" and "start offset attack" features.  I've watched the "Polyphonic Legato" tutorial video a few times, and have some questions (Paul or Herb or anyone else from VSL, if you could answer below each question that would be great):

    1. Let's say your Start Offset Mode is "Leg," and your "Start Offset" is 50 ms.  Does that mean that when a legato transition sample is triggered, the first 50 ms of that sample is cut off, i.e., that the transition sample is 50 ms shorter than without the offset?

    2. Logically, "Start Offset Attack" should represent the ramp up time of the... start offset. Which doesn't make sense, if I'm right about #1. (Plus its maximum value is 500 ms as opposed to the 50 ms maximum of the "start offset" parameter.)  Does "Start Offset Attack" represent the ramp-up time of the entire transition sample?

     Hi Plurye,

    First question, answer is "Yes", the beginning part of the transition is cut off.

    Therefor usually a fade in using "Start Offset Attack" value is needed, because cutting the start of an sample can cause a  kind of artificial attack behaviour.

    OK, thanks.  But since the "Start Offset Attack" value can be up to ten times as long as the maximum "Sample Start Offset" value, am I correct that it functions as a ramp-up for the whole transition sample?
