    I'm using Logic 9 on a MacPro OSX 10.6.3 - my Slave is an i7Quad W7 Pro (64bit). VEP 4.0.5436 on both machines. They are connected by an ethernet cable on a dedicated ethernet port (no router between).

    The VEPro server interface suddenly won't see the slave's server/metaframe. This was working a few days ago, I've changed nothing on the system that I can recall.

    Both machines "see" each other through ethernet, i.e., the Mac uses VNC to control the PC just fine, and the PC can open the Mac's public folder. I've turned off the firewall on the PC.

    Here are my network settings:

    Mac: DHCP (automatic)

    IP address = 196.a.b.c

    Subnet Mask = 255.255.0.0

    Ethernet = 1000baseT, full-duplex, MTU is Jumbo (9000)

    PC: Manual

    IP Address = 192.168.2.14

    Subnet mask = 255.255.255.0

    Default gateway = 192.168.2.1

    Preferred DNS server = 192.168.2.1

    Any suggestions?

     Have you tried with a fixed IP on the Mac? Have you made sure the port that VE Pro uses isn't blocked, for some reason?

    Yes, I've tried that. Both DHCP with manual settings, and Manually.

    I don't know how to block or unblock a port, and I've had no reason to change any settings.

    Is there a page or document that has recommended settings for VEP in a Master/Slave relation?

    robert, i'd assume your mac has 2 NICs (network interface cards) and one of it is connected to the internet (196.a.b.c is a public IP address), the other NIC should then be connected to your PC.

    so please double check if your second NIC is still 192.168.2.x with mask 255.255.255.0

     

    in case our public IP has a gateway entry (on mac called router) you should not have a gateway / router entry for your private network 192.168.2.0

    but having gateway and DNS set to 192.168.2.1 indicates there is (or at least was sometime) a router in the game ....

    and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.

    Yes, the mac has two NICs and so does the PC. I have the mac's 2nd NIC connected to the PCs 2nd NIC, and the PCs 1st NIC is disabled.

    I'm not sure - did you mean to check if the Mac's NIC is 192.168.2.x with mask 255.055.255.0? If so, no - it's now 169.254.177.140 with a mask of 255.255.0.0.

    The PC's NIC is set to IP 192.168.2.14, the Default Gateway is 192.168.2.1 and the mask is 255.255.255.0

    What should I do about the DNS number, delete it?

    if the IP is 169.254.177.140 with a mask of 255.255.0.0 this shows the respective NIC has no longer a static IP address but has been reset zu DHCP or zero-config (wrong mask too)

    please set it to 192.168.2.x and mask 255.255.255.0 manually - where x is a number between 1 and 254 and must be unique on your private network (in your case it should not be 1 or 14)

    and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.

    I made the settings as you suggested and I still can't get it to work. I've sent a message to tech support and haven't heard back, and I start orchestrating a TV show on Monday. Should I reinstall Windows on the PC? I just barely have time to do that and reinstall all the music programs before Monday. I'd do that immediately if I was sure it would help, but I don't want to do all that only to find that it was something much simpler that I'm overlooking.

    Maybe VSL's tech support will see this and take pity on me!

    And I'm ashamed to say that it was because I didn't fully uninstall VEP before reinstalling it. I'm used to seeing "uninstall" as an option in the installer, not as a separate application. I ought to be more observant!
