  • MIR and inserts

Running  MIR on a VisionDaw  computer. In Windows 7 , the local disk >Program Files>Vienna MIR> VSTplugins>VSL Compressor etc.In the MIR GUI in the INSTRUMENT strip , INSERT (add insert effect) , when this is selected a popup window appears  with the message "No effects found".  The effects are loaded to disk , but are not seen by MIR. What am I missing?

  • Make sure that you have "told" MIR where to look for your plugins. It's in the Audio Configuration / Plugins - window.

They have to be 64-bit compatible, of course.

  • Thanks Dietz  that was the problem. I tried to load the forti collection to MIR without sucess. Is it possible? A larger question why try to change the existing room mirs with add ons? I have been working with the Vienna ORF Grosser Sendesaal-1 and it is strange at first to hear the instruments of the orchestra in a hall that has a minimal reverb tail. Then as you work with the space you realize this is closer to the reality of the live orchestra than some renditions that have reverb smeared all over them. Again a remarkable sonic achievement!

    Good to hear it worked!

Hmmmm ... "Grosser Sendesaal" should have quite a recognizable reverb tail. Are you sure you didn't load "Studio 2" or "Studio 3"?

  • I guess the forti loaded alright. Whats confusing is the preset pull down menu reads [sys] Default, however the presets are listed under the Factory preset pull down window.Your right the reverb tail is longer than in Studio 2 or 3. I guess my ear is expecting an altiverb type of reverb. How would you use the tails of the fortii set? When I added examples to the Grosser Sendesaal  I didn't hear much difference.

  • When mixing with Vienna MIR, I wouldn't use any of the reverb impulse responses of the SERTI or FORTI collections for Vienna Convolution Reverb (at least under normal circumstances). What can be very useful are the unique "Timbral Impulse Responses" of these collections.
